The elementary school student low competency in mathematics in Yogyakarta Province is considered linear to the quality of mathematics learning process.  Yet, some factors contribute as prerequisite to this problem could be named such as curriculum quality, teacher quality, school mismanagement,or inconducive social learning. The aim of this research is to find out the competency of elementary school teacher in grade five in managing mathematics learning process.

The data of this reserach were obtained from observation conducted during mathematics learning process. The observation were carried out  to assess teacher competency in managing learning process as well the interpersonal relation happened during the process. The analysis technique of this research was descriptive statistics by comparing the result of all assesed indicators against the criteria standard.

The research found out that  mathematics teacher competency in managing learning process ( from planning to conducting lesson) as well as carrying out interpersonal relation during learning process  were on good criteria. This research also found out that mathematics teacher competency were still low in preparing assessment techniques, selecting and organizing leraning material, selecting media and learning resources as well as conducting teacher as facillitator and motivator.
